Renal cell cancer is diagnosed using a few different tests

Following the diagnosis, a few more tests are carried out to see whether the cancer cells have progressed to the kidney or other organs. There are three possible routes for cancer to travel throughout the body and reach different body areas from its original location.

The lungs, lymph nodes, liver, or bones are the areas most commonly affected by kidney cancer. Surgery is not advised for people with metastatic cancer, particularly if the disease has spread to multiple locations. Immunotherapy and targeted therapy are effective treatments for metastatic cancer.

Surgery is the first-choice treatment option for renal cell cancer; however, it gets more difficult to cure if the cancer has spread to an advanced stage.
